2014 World Series Betting

giants-royals-world-seriesThe first game of the 2014 World Series kicks off tonight, with the San Francisco Giants facing the Kansas City Royals.

The Royals made their first World Series in 29 years by sweeping the Baltimore Orioles. Considered Cinderellas before the MLB Playoffs started, Kansas City has been anything but after winning all eight of their postseason games – the first time that this has been accomplished in history.

“I think this city has been waiting for this for a long time, and the fact that we’re doing it in the fashion that we are is tremendous,” said James Shields, Kansas City’s Game 1 starter for tonight. “This is our goal in Spring Training, and we had one mindset, and that was to go to the World Series and win it. And to be able to be here on this big stage is exactly what we’ve been working really hard for all season long.”

As for the Giants, they are seeking their third MLB title in five years, as they raised the banner in both 2010 and ’12. Their path to a best-of-seven series against Kansas City was also fairly easy as they beat the St. Louis Cardinals in five games. Assuming San Francisco can top KC in the 2014 World Series, they’d become the only other team besides the New York Yankees in the last 40 years to capture three titles in five years.

“I was amazed at the Yankees on what they accomplished. It’s not that easy,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “I mean, first of all, you’ve got to get there. Then the road to get there now is a lot more difficult than it used to be. It used to be two pennant winners going at it, and now you have to go through some playoffs, and this year we had the extra one with the [Wild Card] playoff game.”

2014 World Series Betting Prediction

giants-royals-world-series-1It’s difficult to call what will happen between these two teams since they don’t have much history against each other. However, the Royals did sweep San Francisco during Interleague play, outscoring their opponents 16-6 during the three-game series. But it’s also worth mentioning that KC was red hot – winners of 14 of 16 – and they were playing at home.

Furthermore, the Royals don’t have any postseason experience in recent years – or in recent decades for that matter. Still, one can expect them to put up a strong fight against a team that’s had more than enough playoff success in recent years. “This is final, you know?” Royals manager Ned Yost explained. “This is the last big series, and there are two teams left standing, which is special. I think it’s a great matchup between both clubs. I think that both teams are ready for this.”

One more thing that could factor into the World Series is the Royals’ five-day layoff after sweeping Baltimore. Will this hurt them? History shows that teams with five days or more off before the Series have gone 7-6 – boasting a 6-7 record in Game 1s. So if you’re honed in on 2014 World Series betting, this is about a 50/50 proposition just based on betting the layoff. So what about our prediction for the series:
